New Source On Display: Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents

The 2008 edition of this booklet is now on display in the library Rotunda and is also available at our online catalog at the above link. Information includes:

  • Re-adjustment Counseling Services - – page 8 – Per the booklet: “Counseling is designed to help combat veterans readjust to civilian life. Services include treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”. According to data from the Office of the Army Surgeon General, a total of 28,365 Army soldiers have been diagnosed with PTSD, including more than 10,000 in 2007 (Washington Post, 5/28).
  • Transition Assistance – page 73 – Per the booklet: “Program includes job search, employment and training information to service members who are within 12 months of separation or 24 months of retirement.”.
  • Education and Training – page 33 – Montgomery GI Bill: “Eligibility expires 10 years after the service member is discharged, however, there are exceptions for disability, re-entering active duty and upgraded discharges.”.
  • Special Groups Veterans – page 67 – Benefits to women, homeless, filipino and incarcerated veterans can be found here.
