“I was leaving the South
to fling myself into the unknown . . .
I was taking a part of the South
to transplant in alien soil,
to see if it could grow differently,
if it could drink of new and cool rains,
bend in strange winds,
respond to the warmth of other suns
and, perhaps, to bloom”

Richard Wright

The Warmth of Other Suns is an award winning epic story of the great migrations of African-Americans from the South.  Told through the lives of 3 individuals, this is an historical account of the migration in the 1920s through the 1960s of black citizens who fled the South to Northern and Western cities in a not-always successful effort to escape racism.  Join us in the evening on March 14th from 7-8:30 PM in the Hunt Room for a thoughtful discussion of this novel.  For more information please contact Sarah at 624-6560.

See you at the book discussion!
