Off to the Farm Stand

May 15th, 2013 · No Comments · Books, City Library, Main Branch, West Branch

You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces – just good food from fresh ingredients. ~ Julia Child

About this time of year I start getting really excited about going to my local farm stand.  With so many great farms in the area one only has to drive a short distance to find one.  Farm stands across the state will be opening soon, if they haven’t already. Supporting your local farm is good for our economy and good for your health. It’s time to go get some fresh produce, plants, and other local goods.

Here are a couple links to lists of farms in the area:

Below are some cookbooks to help you enjoy your fresh finds:

Super Salads: More than 250 Fresh Recipes from Classic to Contemporary by the Reader’s Digest Association

The Fresh Egg Cookbook by Jennifer Trainer Thompson

Edible: A Celebration of Local Food by Tracey Ryder

Cooking Light Pick Fresh Cookbook: Creating Irresistable Dishes From the Best Seasonal Produce edited by Rachel Quinlivan

Farm to Fork: Cooking Local, Cooking Fresh by Emeril Lagasse

The Farm: Rustic Recipes for a Year of Incredible Food by Ian Knauer

So get out and about, and visit you local farm stand.  And remember to eat your vegetables.
