Veterans Book Discussion – Standing Down

Thank you for your service! The Manchester City Library is seeking participants for a six-week series of discussions taken from readings in the anthology Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian. Copies of the book are available to borrow when you register.

This six-week series of Wednesday morning discussions is open to all who have served in the armed forces and their families and friends.

Think you might be interested? The first reading is the chapter titled Veteran, from Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage. The opening questions for this discussion will be:

  • Why does Fleming admit that he was frightened during his first battle?
  • Why does he seem amused as he tells the story?
  • Has age changed his memories and impressions of war?

Please register at the Main Circulation Desk at the Main Library located at 405 Pine Street. Copies of the book will be available for check out upon registration. Due to space constraints participation is limited to ten people.
