Be a Rebel – Read Banned Books

Keep the light on

Humans are no stranger to censorship. From Socrates, to Nazi Germany, to the modern day, people have sought to ban, censor or destroy materials they felt were inappropriate. Oftentimes, materials were censored in order to suppress an offending idea. These ideas come in all forms. Religion, political ideologies, and differing social views have all been the cause of a challenge at some point in time.

Here at the library, we celebrate your freedom to read whatever you want, including banned books. The library has a large selection of books that have been challenged including classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird as well as recent releases like The Hate U Give. Come see us at the reference desk to find out what other books have been challenged and why. You can find a selection of these titles on display in our rotunda.
