QR Codes

A Quick Response (QR) Code is a type of barcode that can be scanned with any smartphone that has the appropriate software installed. QR Codes can be encoded with many different types of information including URL links, contact information, calendar events, email addresses, GPS locations, text, maps, WiFi network connection information, SMS text messages and much more. Once scanned, this information can easily be synchronized to your smartphone’s address book or calendar. QR Code scanning applications can usually be downloaded and installed free of charge and can be found in your smartphone’s market or app store.

The Manchester City Library will begin implementing QR Codes on program calendars and event postings over the next few weeks. This will allow patrons to scan the QR Code of an event that they wish to attend and have it synchronize with their phone’s calendar. Library Contact information and links to library web services including the library catalog, event registration site, the library’s website and blog may also be included.

The QR Code attached to this post contains the library’s contact information.
