Read a Biography!

July 5th, 2012 · No Comments · Books, City Library, Local History, Main Branch, NH Room

Biographies can be as entertaining as a romantic novel, more intimate than a history book, and tell us about the interesting lives of real people.  Some of the main characters may seem superhuman, others may be ordinary people who have become successful or have led extraordinary lives.

Where can you find information about the life of a real super hero?  The lives of  the  American Presidents, astronauts, royalty, actors, the rich and poor, doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs?  The biography section at the Manchester City Library has a variety of titles from which to choose.

Some of the new titles are:

Albright, Madeleine Korbel.  Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948.
Caro, Robert A.   The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson.
Eliot, Marc.  Michael Douglas: A Biography.
Kurlansky, Mike.  Birdseye: The Adventures of a Curious Man.
Lynn, Loretta.  Honky Tonk Girl: My Life in Lyrics.
O’Neal, Ryan.   Both of Us: My Life With Farrah.
Spitz, Bob.  Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child.

At the Manchester City Library the biographies are catalogued as “B” or as“920”. The online catalog will list the selections at our library and direct you to the location. Books from another library can be requested at the Information Desk.
