I consider reading an occupational hazard. I’m a Librarian. Left to my own devices I have my favorite genres – historical novels, cozy mysteries, Harry Potter, and dare I say it - Romances – until a title catches my eye or a review intrigues. That was the case when I read a review for The White Tiger, a first novel by Aravind Adiga. Right off, the narrator says he a murderer, but mainly he’s an entrepreneur writing from his 150 square foot office seated under a chandelier. It’s after hours and all the call centers are closing – we’re in India. Although I wanted to know right away what he was up to, I didn’t find out the nature of his after-hours enterprise until I heard the important part, the story of his life and how he got to be where he is. It’s a book that’s hard to define – part cultural history, part wise observation, and completely entertaining. But then I don’t want to tell you too much, except that this is a good one.
