Share a Story – Shape a Future is a week-long event, from today through Friday, with a goal “not only to celebrate reading among those of us who already love books, but to encourage each other to reach beyond ourselves and do it in a way that we are neither judging nor instructing others.” The event is being hosted on a handful of children’s literature blogs (of which there are many) with a different theme each day.
Today’s theme is “Raising Readers” and is hosted by Terry Doherty of Scrub-a-Dub-Tub. Today’s posts are:
- Finding Time at Home by Tricia Stohr-Hunt of The Miss Rumphius Effect
- Making Time in the Classroom for Read Alouds by Sarah Mulhern of The Reading Zone
- Look for the Clues: Tips and Tricks to Uncover and Help a Remedial Reader by Sandra Stiles, guest posting on Scrub-a-Dub-Tub
- It’s Bigger Than the Book: Building Strong Readers with a Daily Dose of Read Aloud, an interview with Cathy Puett Miller on Share a Story – Shape a Future
- Mind the Gap: Engaging Gifted Readers by Donalyn Miller of The Book Whisperer
Terry’s post also includes links to useful tools from Reach Out and Read.
The themes for the rest of the week are:
- Selecting Reading Material (Tuesday), hosted by Sarah Mulhern at The Reading Zone
- Reading Aloud – It’s Fun, It’s Easy (Wednesday), hosted by Susan Stephenson at The Book Chook
- A Visit to the Library (Thursday), hosted by Eva Mitnick at Eva’s Book Addiction
- Technology and Reading – What the Future Holds (Friday), hosted by Elizabeth Dulemba at dulemba.com (who also created the logo used above)
For more information about the schedule of articles for the rest of the week, Share a Story – Shape a Future has the details.
