Two of these databases, Ancestry (library edition) and HeritageQuest are very useful in the search of your family history.  On May 8th (Tuesday) from 2:30 to 4:00 PM, in the Winchell Room at the Main Library, there will be a class to introduce you to the basic workings of these two databases. In addition, some public on-line genealogy databases will be discussed.

Laptops will be provided during the class to use in the search of the databases.  There is a limited amount of available seats; thus you must register ahead of time for the class.  You may sign up for the class, using the events calendar at www.manchester.lib.nh.us or call 624-6550 ext. 320.

To continue providing programs you’d like to see, we’d like to invite you to take part in our very short survey. 2) Paper Copy: Grab a copy of the survey when you visit the library!  Copies will be located at  Adult programs here at the library and in the library Rotunda.  Completed paper versions of the survey should be returned to the Information Services Desk, located in the Manchester City Library Reading Room.

Answer a few questions and make your library work for you by telling us the kinds of programming you want.  Remember, this survey pertains to adult programming only.

The number of social media users age 65 and older grew 100 percent throughout 2010, so that one in four people in that age group are now part of a social networking site.

On Tuesday, March 20th we will be hosting an introductory class on social media applications.  This class will be part hands on/part discussion and is intended for those who are new to social media.  The class will run from 2-3 PM in the Winchell Room of the main branch. We will create and save a file, learn basic functions such as copy/paste, tabbing and setting margins and have fun with enhancements (bold, italic, font size, and font color). The class will cover the basic terminology of the Internet, basic navigation tips around the Internet sites and basic searching techniques. There will also be information for creating your own e-mail account, using a web base e-mail system.

Yay! Spring is here and with it new computer skills for you! Join us for a quick, easy lesson in how to attach a file to your e-mail account. It is preferred that you have an e-mail account before attending this clinic. Since this is the last computer clinic in the series (for now), with time permitting, you’ll have a chance to ask questions about things covered in previous job search clinics! This is your chance to ask questions about searching monster.com, creating a resume, or creating a cover letter!
