Now that the libraries have changed over to our summer hours, just a reminder about museum passes. If you have a Saturday or Sunday museum pass reserved, you will need to pick those up on the Friday before your visit. Our Friday hours are the same for both buildings, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. If you are unable to use a museum pass that you have reserved, please call us to cancel your reservation. It will free up the pass for another family to enjoy. Wondering what museum passes are available to check out?

Hi Everyone –

If you have looked at our museum list the past couple of days, you may have noticed that the Manchester Millyard pass is gone. Our membership expired on Monday, November 30. We missed our membership renewal letter. So, I called them this afternoon and well……they are sending us a new one. Once we receive it, we will renew for another year. I’ll let you know when the new passes become available.

The only other one that will be ending here shortly is the Currier Art Museum. I did speak with them last week when I was over there for storytime. That letter should also be mailed out this week or next week. We will be renewing that membership as well.

I think that is all for museum passes this year. Come March, we will start again. At that time, we will go through all the passes to see what is moving, what is not moving and what we can delete or add. We have found some new ones that we are considering adding.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

There has been some changes with the museum passes:

We just got our Boston Children’s Museum passes. It allows 4 people into the museum at a cost of $2.00 per person. Alicia and I have entered them into our museum list, so they are ready to roll. We have a membership for a six month trial even though we are pretty sure that this is something we are going to be keeping.

I talked to the Kaleidoscope Museum today about our passes. They tried to drop them off on Saturday but we were closed. I’m going tomorrow to their new place to pick them up. As soon as I get them into my little hands, I’ll have Alicia process them. We are hoping to have them ready by end of tomorrow. I know folks have been asking about the Kaleidoscope. The passes should be ready to go in the next couple of days.

Yesterday, several patrons asked about our Zoo New England passes. They are wondering if we are going to stop offering them. You probably heard the news over the weekend about the Stone and Franklin Park Zoos and the possibility that they might have to close due to budget cuts. Unless something happens, we are going to keep offering this pass. Our membership is paid until next summer. If patrons question you at the desk or on the phone, you can let me know that the Zoo New England pass is here to stay.

That is probably going to be all for our museum passes this year. There are a couple that need to be renew come September and November, but we will not be adding any new ones until next year.

If you can’t remember then now is the time to check it out. Public libraries across the nation are seeing significant increases in usage because people are realizing what a deal visiting the library can be and how easy it is on your wallet. When the economy is good it’s easy to purchase that bestseller to read, and then let it fill up valuable space in your home. Just because there is a recession does not mean you don’t still want to read that book. You just are more aware about extra costs- so why not turn to your local library?

At the Manchester City Library we order books, dvds, and audiobooks months before the publishing world releases them, thus you can place a hold via our online catalog and sit back and wait for us to let you know it’s arrived. You can read all the latest bestsellers, watch all the blockbuster movies and not have to clutter up your home or empty your wallet to do so. The average taxpayer in Manchester paid approximately $37.08 a year for library services in 2008. That’s $3.09 a month! For that you can borrow 5 DVDS and 25 books at a time – worth approximately $520. Want to know exactly how much we are worth to you? Check out the New Hampshire Library Association Library Value Calculator.

We offer free programs for all ages; museum passes for discounted admission fees, and access to free Internet via our public computers or wireless network. And if you are looking for a job we have a new Career Resource section to assist you.

What are you waiting for? Your libraries are open 107 hours a week, nights and weekends included. Stop in and visit us and get the best card in town into your wallet!
