All museum passes provided by the libraries will be available in the children's room at the Main Branch!

Beginning on July 5th, all museum passes provided by the libraries will be available in the children’s room at the Main Branch at 405 Pine Street. This includes Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Aquarium which are sponsored by our Friends of West Manchester Community Library. Due to the reduced hours at our branch, which would impact the availability of these important museum passes it was decided to make all museum passes available for pick up at the main library only. The main library has free parking in the lot next to our building and is open:

Monday 8:30 to 8:30
Tuesday 8:30 to 8:30
Wednesday 8:30 to 5:30
Thursday 8:30 to 8:30
Friday 8:30 to 5:30
Saturday 9:30 to 2:30 (year round)

If you have reserved a museum pass, you will now need to come to the children’s room with your library card to pick up your pass. If you would like to see what we offer for museum pass, please check out our list at www.manchester.lib.nh.us. To reserve a pass, you need to be 18 years and older, have a valid, fine-free Manchester City Library card. Choose the day and museum you would like to visit, make the reservation. You would then pick up the museum pass the day before your visit or the day of your visit by 10:00 am; visit the museum; then return the pass to the children’s circulation desk the next day. It is that simple. It is a great way to spend an afternoon with family and friends.

When an out of the blue "block" happens on your perfectly good library card. Or... when bad things happen to good library users.

Let’s say that you are using your library card to use an automated library function: download an audiobook / e-book, use the online databases, or to get on one of the library computers or another library activity using your card. You have no fines nor has your card expired, but there is a “Block” on your card preventing you from doing what you wanted to do. In some instances, this block can be the “Address Check” block which happens one year after you have renewed your library card or received your initial library card. This address check is done to ensure that we have the correct address for you.

If you receive a block notice, please contact the library and we will troubleshoot to see if it is an address check block or something else. If it is an address check block, all we need to do is verify information and then we can take the block off. The telephone number for the main branch is 603-624-6550 (extension 510 or 310). The telephone number for the West Branch is 603-624-6560.

Please be aware that when your library card expires you will need to come to the library in person in order to renew your card for another two years. When renewing your card you will be asked to provide a photo ID and proof or your residence. So if you get that sinister “block” on your library card just give us a jingle and we’ll be glad to sort things out for you!

Hi Everyone –

If you have looked at our museum list the past couple of days, you may have noticed that the Manchester Millyard pass is gone. Our membership expired on Monday, November 30. We missed our membership renewal letter. So, I called them this afternoon and well……they are sending us a new one. Once we receive it, we will renew for another year. I’ll let you know when the new passes become available.

The only other one that will be ending here shortly is the Currier Art Museum. I did speak with them last week when I was over there for storytime. That letter should also be mailed out this week or next week. We will be renewing that membership as well.

I think that is all for museum passes this year. Come March, we will start again. At that time, we will go through all the passes to see what is moving, what is not moving and what we can delete or add. We have found some new ones that we are considering adding.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

There has been some changes with the museum passes:

We just got our Boston Children’s Museum passes. It allows 4 people into the museum at a cost of $2.00 per person. Alicia and I have entered them into our museum list, so they are ready to roll. We have a membership for a six month trial even though we are pretty sure that this is something we are going to be keeping.

I talked to the Kaleidoscope Museum today about our passes. They tried to drop them off on Saturday but we were closed. I’m going tomorrow to their new place to pick them up. As soon as I get them into my little hands, I’ll have Alicia process them. We are hoping to have them ready by end of tomorrow. I know folks have been asking about the Kaleidoscope. The passes should be ready to go in the next couple of days.

Yesterday, several patrons asked about our Zoo New England passes. They are wondering if we are going to stop offering them. You probably heard the news over the weekend about the Stone and Franklin Park Zoos and the possibility that they might have to close due to budget cuts. Unless something happens, we are going to keep offering this pass. Our membership is paid until next summer. If patrons question you at the desk or on the phone, you can let me know that the Zoo New England pass is here to stay.

That is probably going to be all for our museum passes this year. There are a couple that need to be renew come September and November, but we will not be adding any new ones until next year.
