Here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: Head over to the city snow emergency twitter page. If you already have a Twitter account, simply start following them. If you do not have a Twitter account, set one up via the big green Join Today button. (Don’t worry, you don’t have to use the account for anything except getting these alerts.)

Step 2:

1. Login to your Twitter account.
2. Click on Settings. Click on Devices. Enter +1 as your country code. (Assuming you are in the US and if you’re not, why do you want to know about our snow emergencies?)
3. Enter your cell phone number.
4. Check off “It’s okay for Twitter to send txt messages to my phone. Standard rates apply.”
5. Click save.

Step 3:

1. Click the Home link at the top of the screen.
2. Then click the Following link in the top right.
3. Next to the mht_snow_emergency username click the phone icon in the settings column. It should turn green.
4. Updates posted by mht_snow_emergency will be forwarded to your cell phone via text message.
