Have you watched the TV show “Who Do You Think You Are?” and wondered who your ancestors were? We can get you started on your quest, with a class on October 9th showing how to use two genealogy databases that Manchester City Library subscribes to.
During this class, we will use the databases Ancestry.com (library edition) and Heritage Quest. Ancestry.com is a database of databases, including censuses, various state records of deaths, births and weddings, civil war soldiers and much, much more. Heritage Quest contains many digitized books on family histories and individual county or town geographical / genealogical histories; in addition to a surname periodical article index, American Revolutionary War pensions, U.S. Serial Set (petitions to U.S. Congress) and Freedman’s Bank.
Ancestry.com can only be accessed on the computers at the Manchester libraries. Heritage Quest can be accessed both at the libraries and from a home internet computer with an up to date Manchester City Library card.
Plan to join us on October 9th from 2:30-4:00 in the Winchell Room. There are limited seats available, so you must pre‐register by calling 624‐6550 ext. 320 or going to the calendar of events on the library website. If you have questions, please contact Eileen Reddy at the same phone number.
Let the searching begin!
