For March the Brown Bag Book Club will be reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. The Goldfinch (2013) is the third novel by American author Donna Tartt, her first new book in 11 years. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2014 among other honors.
A young boy miraculously survives an accident that takes the life of his mother. Abandoned by his father, he is taken in by a friend’s family. In the years that follow, one of the few reminders of his mother is a small painting that ultimately draws him into the art underworld.
The Goldfinch is a novel of shocking narrative energy and power. It combines unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and breathtaking suspense, while plumbing with a philosopher’s calm the deepest mysteries of love, identity, and art. It is a beautiful, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate. Plan to join us on Tuesday, March 31st, at 12:15 and don’t forget to bring along your lunch. For any questions or for more information please contact the Information Department at 624-6550 ext. 320.
