The Golden Hour

Parrish

Driving home from work last week down Route 28 I chanced to fall into a beautiful golden hour. The orange and gold leaves on the trees had a fine back-light to them and then when the trees finally gave way to fields, I saw the sky. It felt like one of those skies that Maxfield Parrish might have painted. He, too, lived in New Hampshire after all! It pleases me to think that my home state inspired such a renowned and respected artist and that we share sunrises and sunsets like this, albeit across time and space.

And speaking of time and space, I encourage you to shake off the stresses and blues of fall and winter by visiting the Maxfield Parrish exhibit at the Currier Museum of Art. And if you can’t visit the Currier, then plan to visit the art room in the library. We have a wonderful collection of Maxfield Parrish art books available for borrowing. If Maxfield Parrish’s art isn’t your thing, then we can find a different artist to inspire you.

I hope the beauty and stillness of Parrish’s works might warm your heart and help chase the autumn chills away. See you in the art room!
