President’s Day is this Monday and the Manchester City Library will be closed for the day in observance of the holiday.
The term “First Lady” was used first in 1849 when President Zachary Taylor called Dolley Madison “First Lady” at her state funeral. It gained popularity in 1877 when used in reference to Lucy Ware Webb Hayes. Most First Ladies, including Jackie Kennedy, are said to have hated the label.
Every member of Teddy Roosevelt’s family owned a pair of stilts, including the first lady.
Gerald Ford worked as a model during college. He also worked as a forest ranger at Yellowstone National Park directing traffic and feeding the bears.
We look forward to serving you on Tuesday and we will be open from 9:30 Am to 8:30 PM that day. We hope that you all have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
