Have you ever noticed how many great movies or TV shows there are that, when you read the small print, say they are based on a book? Some are well-known, based on classic pieces of literature, like the upcoming Johnny Depp version of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” based on Lewis Carroll’s Through the looking glass, or Disney’s “The BFG” based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl.
But sometimes the book isn’t as well-known, like “The Magicians,” the Syfy series based on the novel of the same name by Lev Grossman or “A Hologram for the King,” starring Tom Hanks, based on the book by Dave Eggers. Or the powers that be change the name for the movie – like they did with the film currently in theaters “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” which is based on the book The Taliban shuffle by Kim Barker.
For more examples of shows and movies that either have come out, or will be coming out, in 2016, check out the new display area near the start of the fiction collection. Remember that all items in our displays can be checked out – even the locked cases on the first and second floors. You can keep tabs on the various topics by clicking the “On Display @ the Library” link in our catalog. For help in finding the display you are interested in, just ask at one of the public service desks. And keep checking back, as we will be adding new displays around the building on a regular basis.
