The Hive Mind

Late spring in New Hampshire can mean picnics, loads of blooming wildflowers and hay fever. For others it means something else entirely. Late spring is the time of year that new shipments of honey bees start to arrive in New Hampshire. The call comes in and folks who have ordered their honeybees in the middle of winter get to rush down to the pick up location and drive their bees home. Sort of like going to the pet shop, specialty kennel, or animal shelter to bring home a new pet. I’ll grant you that bee keeping isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I do wager that many folks might be thinking of getting a new animal friend for their family and springtime seems like a natural time in which to do it.

So what do you do when you get Fido, Freckles, or Buzz Bomb (the bee hive) home after your bonding drive home? You could visit your local library and find some pet care books to help ease your transition into pet parenthood.  Here at the Manchester City Library we have a fine selection of pet care books and we’re always adding more. Be it information on what to expect from your new kitten, why your chickens aren’t laying eggs yet, or what that African Grey Parrot is really saying to you, please come on in and we’ll try to help.
And if you do take in a new pet (or livestock) in the near future I would like to wish you good luck and many years of happiness with your new animal friend.
As always, see you at the library!
