It was with great sadness that the library had to have the large oak on the library’s south lawn removed. The oak has lost many limbs over the years during storms and a few weeks ago we discovered it was infested with carpenter ants resulting in the trunk being hollow in many spots. This tree has shaded our lawn for many years but unfortunately after consultation with the City’s Arborist, Boisvert Tree Services and the City’s Risk Manager the decision had to be made to remove it from the property due to safety concerns. Over the summer the library staff will be consulting with our friends at the Manchester Garden Club to decide on a new tree to be planted.
