Smithsonian Transcribe-athon

January 3rd, 2020 · No Comments · City Library, Events, Main Branch, News, Teens

Do you enjoy typing? Do you like reading historical documents? Then come to the Smithsonian Transcribe-athon hosted by the Manchester City Library. The Smithsonian Transcription Center is a crowdsourcing project developed as a way to digitally enable and increase public engagement with Smithsonian materials in a collaborative environment. The Manchester City Library will be hosting a community transcribe-athon to help the Smithsonian make their collections more accessible to facilitate research and exploration.

Transcription projects come from over 19 libraries, archives, and museum departments across the Smithsonian with new projects being added each week. Materials can date from as far back as the 15th century and can go up to present day. Patrons can transcribe documents from collections like the Freedmen’s Bureau Records at the National Museum of African American History or records from the United States National Herbarium or anything in between!

Come see what historical documents you can find on January 16th, 2020 from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm. Library laptops will be available for use on a first come first serve basis. Personal laptops may brought and used for this event.

Registration is required. Please call the Information Desk at 603-624-6550 ext. 3320 or email Becky White at rwhite3@manchesternh.gov
