Celebrating Mother’s Day while social distancing.

May 9th, 2020 · No Comments · City Library, Main Branch, West Branch

Times are very strange and unsettling now and I admit that the thought of celebrating Mother’s Day without being close to my mother is very strange and challenging. What to do? How to do it while staying six feet away? And the return of winter weather doesn’t help, either. (Snow on May 9th?)

So if you’re like me you want to do something nice to show her that you care while keeping everyone safe. I made a small list and thought I’d share them with you, too. Most of my sources came from Martha Stewart, Forbes and Pinterest.

Send Mom a favorite meal from her favorite restaurant.

Have the family make a gratitude video to share.

Send a card or a care box that has crafts and goodies made for her by the children and grandkids.

Schedule a virtual party on Zoom for her or an online call on Skype. Martha suggests having photos of Mom set in the background to bring back good memories and set the atmosphere.

Plan and schedule a special trip out for a Sunday brunch, museum trip, or a trip together to the movies in the future. Who doesn’t like having something fun to look forward to?

Send her a gift. Flowers can’t be beat, but she might also want gift certificates to her favorite stores, restaurants and don’t forget that beauty salon she loves.

These are just a few ideas to get motivated. We’d love to hear how you are celebrating Mother’s Day this year.

Happy Mother’s Day.
