A Statement from the Manchester City Library

June 10th, 2020 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

The Manchester City Library reaffirms our commitment to providing services and materials to meet the cultural, educational and informational needs of our diverse community.  Amidst the grief, sadness and anger that is being expressed across our country, we join those standing against oppression & racism towards people of color who have endured centuries of injustice.  As a free public library, it is our duty to support equal access to information, and to provide a haven where all are treated with respect, dignity, and equity.

We stand with the other voices in our nation in calling for immediate & proactive measures to end systemic racism and discrimination.  The library’s role is to collect, correlate and disseminate information in order to facilitate change and awareness.  To help move our community forward in the right direction, the library staff has put together resources to help us give voice to our anger, and to raise awareness of injustice.

The library staff will continue to improve upon our commitment to provide diverse resources and programming, so that we may give voice to the injustices done to those in our city, and in our state for far too long.
