Update on reopening plans

July 15th, 2020 · 4 Comments · City Library, Events, Main Branch, News

While the library building continues to be closed we did want to give the community an update as we continue our preparations for reopening.  The library staff and I would like to share some of the changes you will find when we are able to safely welcome visitors back into the library.

  • Only the main library building will be reopening to start.
  • Hours of operation will be different so that we can meet the additional cleaning requirements.
  • Library visitors will be asked to wear a mask in our building out of respect for library staff and other visitors. We will gladly provide you with one if you don’t have one for your visit.
  • Social distancing is expected in the building.
  • To maximize access to the main building due to capacity limits we ask:
    • That all visitors restrict your time in the building by coming in for the service you need and then leaving.  Services that will be available are computers by appointment, NH Room access by appointment, information services, copiers (exact change needed) and browsing of the main floor collections.
    • That you visit only once a day.
    • Only one person utilize the elevator at a time unless you came to the library together.
    • The second floor will be kept closed for the time being.  Materials from the Art/Music room can be requested for pickup as a hold or via curbside services.
    • The Children’s Room area has very limited capacity:
      • There will be no toys or games out to be used.
      • There will be limited computer access for our youngest visitors.
      • There will be limited seating.
  • Materials on Hold to be picked up will be situated in a new location and already checked out to you to help limit your time in the building.
  • Curbside services will continue if you choose not to enter the building to pick up your materials.
  • All meeting rooms will remain closed to the public.
  • All library programming will continue to be online.

As we finalize our reopening steps please continue to place all returns in the outside book drops.  Please note that returns will not be taken off your account until at least 72 hours have passed as we need to quarantine them for that time frame per the Center for Disease Control. We are not charging fines for the immediate future.  All items will continue to be checked out to you for 3 weeks even after we reopen.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future as we create a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors.

Be well,
Denise M. van Zanten
Library Director

Great news! Will browsing be allowed?

  • Yvonne

    Hi Susan,

Yes, we will allow browsing, if you feels comfortable with that. Thanks for asking and have a wonderful day.

Does curbside service allow for checking out books or just returning books?

  • Yvonne

    Hello,

Curbside service is for picking up your library material requests only.

If you are returning books please put them in the book drops. There are book drops on Concord Street by the library parking lot and a book drop outside the West Branch by the main entryway to the library.
