Reopening Plans continued…

August 4th, 2020 · 2 Comments · Art Room, Books, Children, City Library, Events, Main Branch, NH Room

The library staff and I hope you are all doing well!  Our curbside contactless service is still being offered 10 am to 4 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10 am to 7 pm on Tuesday and Thursday along with all our digital services and programs.

Our preparations to welcome you back continue and we should be able to announce our opening date soon!  It is important that we continue to share what the “new look” of visiting the library will be like when we reopen as we follow the Governor’s Task Force guidelines for libraries:

  • Hours of operation will include blocks of hours open to the public and then we will close for an hour. Yes, we will be asking all visitors to leave at specific closing times throughout the day so that we can clean for the next group of library visitors.
  • Library visitors will be asked to wear a mask in our building out of respect for library staff and other visitors. We will gladly provide you with one if you don’t have one for your visit.
  • To maximize access to the main building due to capacity limits it is very important that our visitors limit your time in the building by coming in for the service you need and then leaving so we can let others in for their turn to access services. Staff will be keeping a head count!
  • Please only visit the library once a day, remember we want as many of you to have access as possible. Once you leave your “spot” will be given to another patron.
  • We also ask that if you use a library item and decide not to take it home that you please place it on the carts you will see about the library so that we can place it into quarantine. So don’t put the item back for us!
  • Social distancing is expected in the building.  Please follow the directional signs that have been provided to assist you.
  • Computer stations must be booked in advance by calling or emailing the library once we reopen.
    • It will be required that you check in at the Information Desk so that library staff can confirm your reservation.
    • You will be offered wipes to clean your work station before you start your session.
    • The librarian will then direct you to your assigned computer station and they will log you in to your session remotely from their desk.  No need for a library card or guest pass.
    • Staff will assist you remotely if you need it by sharing your screen, with your permission.  For the time being staff will not be assisting you at your station.
    • The time limit will be 50 minutes. Please note that if you are late for your appointment you will not get the full 50 minutes as there will be others waiting for their allotted spot.  So be prompt!
  • There will be no recharging of personal electronic devices at the library when we first reopen.
  • The library staff will not be handling cash so please bring exact change to use our copiers or vended printing.  Any lost items or old fines can be paid by check or with a credit card online.
  • Access to the NH Room will be by appointment only. No more than 1 visitor will be allowed in the room at a time.
  • The second floor will be kept closed for the time being.
    • Materials from the Art/Music room can be requested for pickup as a hold or via curbside services.
  • Materials on Hold to be picked up will be situated in a new location so that you can “grab it and go”.
  • Curbside services will continue if you choose not to enter the building to pick up your materials with different hours.
  • The Children’s Room area will have “pods” set up so that groups/families who are together can have their own spot in the room during your visit.
    • These will be assigned to visitors as they enter the room by library staff.
    • Once you leave your pod it will be cleaned for the next set of visitors to enter the room.
  • If you are not utilizing the children’s room and don’t need our accessible entrance-way, please plan on using the front entrance off of Pine Street to help us with managing the number of our visitors due to limited capacity.
  • All meeting rooms will remain closed to the public.
  • All library programming will continue to be online.

Our new hours will be posted on our blog and social media as soon as preparations are finished and the Health Department has reviewed our new setup.

Be well,

Denise M. van Zanten
