Banned Books Week

September 27th, 2020 · No Comments · Banned Book Week, Books, City Library, Main Branch, West Branch

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

It’s that time of year again. It’s Banned Books Week! The time to celebrate banned and challenged books. Most books are challenged or banned to protect others from what a person or a group will deem as inappropriate content and language. But censorship can be harmful, which is why libraries believe strongly in the freedom to read whatever materials you want. In honor of this, libraries celebrate Banned Books Week every year, so you can “Find your freedom to read.”

Curious about what the Top Ten Most Challenged Books Are? Click here for a complete list with reasons why they were challenged. You can also find out more about Banned Books Week and how it started on the American Library Association’s website. So come join us and read a banned book. We have lots to choose from. Come to the rotunda to pick one out or place one on hold for curbside pickup.
