October 13th, 2020 · No Comments · Books, City Library, E-Books, Main Branch, West Branch

Agatha Christie’s first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, came out in October of 1920. The story introduced her now famed character Hercule Poirot, a quirky detective from Belgium, who fled to England as a refugee in WWI. Christie based the character off of Belgian officers she assisted as a nurse during the war, and refugees fleeing to England from Belgium. Poirot has since been seen in dozens of novels, film adaptations, from Death on the Nile to Murder on the Orient Express, and remains a fan favorite to this day.
