Gaslamp Fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy that is usually set in some version of Victorian or Edwardian history. It differs from steampunk, though, because it’s missing the more scientific and mechanical elements. It’s also different form classic fantasy or high fantasy like J.R.R. Tolkein or Lewis Caroll, though they tend to share the same time period in setting. You’ll notice a lot of similarities to gothic literature: romantic and horrific traits designed to arouse fear, apprehension, and other intense emotions in the reader. Happy reading!
