National Library Week is organized by the American Library Association each year as a time to recognize the library and its place in the community. This year it runs from April 3-9, and the theme is ‘Connect with your Library’. You might wonder, how can I do that? Besides having a library card, there are many ways to connect with the library:

  • Attend programs: The library offers many interesting and educational programs each year on a variety of subjects. Most are available to watch through Zoom, but we have also started up in-person programming again!
  • Pick up a take-and-make craft: Each month a new and fun craft is available for adults to pick up at the information desk. They go quickly, so be sure to pick yours up early!
  • Participate in the Summer Reading Program: Read to earn points that can be used toward raffle tickets for fun and exciting prizes. There are activities specific to the Summer Reading Program and fun programs that go with the theme, so be sure to sign up this summer!
  • Volunteer: When the library runs a book sale, volunteers are the driving force behind it. If interested, keep an eye out for more information about volunteering and the book sale.
  • Subscribe to the newsletter: The library newsletter is published quarterly and has all the information you need about upcoming programs, events, and library happenings. Sign up here and read past editions of the newsletter here.
  • Check out the library’s blog: The blog is another fun way to stay up to date on what’s happening at the library. Read the blog here: https://manchesterlibrary.org/ and if you want an email each time a new blog post is posted, sign up here.
  • Follow the library on social media: Facebook  Twitter Instagram
  • Did you know the library has a podcast? Check out the latest episode here.
  • Join one of the library’s two books clubs (or both!).
  • Consider joining the Library Foundation: https://www.manchester.lib.nh.us/Library-Foundation
  • Use the library! The best way to connect with the library is to utilize the services provided. Check out books or DVDs, listen to an audiobook on Libby, find your next read with our reader’s advisory form, watch a movie on Kanopy, read the Union Leader through the database NewsBank, learn a new language with Transparent, or any or the other databases on our website: https://www.manchester.lib.nh.us/Research/Databases

Be sure to stop by the library during National Library Week and check out the library scavenger hunt! Available to all ages, forms can be found at the information desks at both the Main and West branches of the library. Fill out the scavenger hunt form for a chance to win a $25 gift card to Market Basket, and get a piece of candy just for participating!
