Madeleine Albright is most known for being the first female Secretary of State, but she was also an ambassador to the United Nations, a WWII survivor, and an immigrant. Born in 1937 as Marie Jana Korbelova in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Albright has seen and made history. She lived through Nazi occupation and her family was exiled to Britain from 1939 until the end of WWII. Fearing she would be exposed to Marxism, her father sent her to school in Switzerland, where she changed her name from Marie Jana to Madeleine. Her family immigrated to America via Ellis Island in 1948 to avoid communism, and Albright grew up in the country she would one day represent. She was a role model to many, and will continue to inspire long after her passing.
