Tired of the heat?

August 5th, 2022 · No Comments · Books, City Library, Main Branch, West Branch

Here’s how you can prevent it from getting worse:

Climate change is here to stay, and unfortunately has brought along its friends ‘drought’, ‘heat wave’, ‘wild fire’, ‘extreme weather’, among others. Here are a few tips to help reduce harmful emissions, also known as greenhouse gasses:

  • Cut back on single use plastic. Not only will this reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills or the ocean, it will also reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Go electric! Electric vehicles have been around for well over a century, but are now becoming affordable, efficient, and mainstream.
  • Consider replacing gas guzzling equipment like lawn mowers, leaf blowers, or chainsaws with electric models.
  • Install solar panels: This is a huge investment, but with the price of electricity rising around 50% this summer, it will pay off in the long run.
  • Eat locally produced food: Not only will this help the local economy, but it will reduce the carbon emissions used to transport food around the world.
  • Go vegan or vegetarian: the animal agricultural business produces a lot of greenhouse gasses.
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle!
