Keep Calm and Have a Spa Day

September 23rd, 2022 · No Comments · Books, City Library, Library Displays, Main Branch

Meditation, fuzzy robes and slippers and those all-essential oils.  Give yourself a spa day as we head back to school, work or our regularly scheduled routines.  We invite you to create your own oasis with materials from our collection.

What is a spa?  The International Spa Association defines Spa as “places devoted to overall well-being through a variety of professional services that encourage the renewal of mind, body and spirit”.

The term derives from Spa, Belgium, or as the Romans called it Aquae Spadanae. There are many different types of spas, from Ayurvedic spas in India to day spas, cruise spas, Japanese spas, hot tubs, even dental spas, which combine dental treatments with spa services.  How’s that for a dentist appointment?

You don’t need to go on a cruise or to Japan or India to have elements of your own, unique spa space.  The library has many sources on bath and beauty recipes, meditation, massage and how to relax in your own space.  See a small sampling below.

Spa Apothecary: Natural Bath & Beauty Recipes

Look for the Spicy Sore Muscle Salve recipe on page 106.

The Hot Flash Club Chills Out – This is fun story about ladies who own a day spa.  Perfect while relaxing in the tub. Please don’t get the book wet, though, thanks J

Meditation classical relaxation vol. 5 – Classical music to relax or meditate by.

Peaceful Piggy Meditation – This children’s book was simply too cute not to include.  A peaceful piggy demonstrates meditation techniques.

The Complete Book of Massage – Back, leg, head, hand, abdomen, face, neck, you name it. It’s all in this book.

Spas for Your Home – 40 ideas for turning a space in your home into a relaxation area.  Create your own, custom, affordable spa.

We invite you to enjoy and browse the display in the Rotunda for more items.
