SNHS offers supportive programs for individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness to obtain and maintain safe and stable housing. These services may include short-term assistance to prevent eviction, help in securing new housing, and information and referrals for emergency shelter.
Homeless Prevention, Rapid Rehousing and Housing Stabilization: For those on the verge of homelessness or those who are already homeless. The goal is to quickly stabilize an individual or family in affordable housing and then provide case management and support so the individual or family can remain financially stable and in their home. New Hampshire Emergency Rental Assistance Program (NHERAP): The NHERAP program provides financial assistance for New Hampshire renters who cannot pay their rent or utilities as a result of the pandemic. Households may qualify for assistance for past due and future rent and utility payments (when necessary to ensure housing stability and subject to finding availability) for a period not to exceed 18 months. Types of NHERAP assistance include:
- Past-due rent including reasonable late and legal fees.
- Three months of future rent payments if needed for housing stability.
- Utilities, such as electricity, home heating costs, water, sewer, trash.
- Other housing-related costs such as internet and relocation expenses (including rental application fees, utility hook-up fees, and security deposits).
- Households may qualify for utility assistance even if they do not receive or need rental assistance.

SNHS is the Community Action Partnership serving Hillsborough & Rockingham counties, and remains consistently available to individuals and families who find themselves facing economic instability. Eligible New Hampshire homeowners, renters, and subsidized renters can apply for financial assistance to make rising energy bills more affordable.
Fuel Assistance Program (FAP):Fuel Assistance benefits from $304 to $3024 may be available to homeowners or renters during the winter heating season. Subsidized tenants who pay their own heat may qualify for a benefit.
Electric Assistance Program (EAP): The EAP program provides savings ranging from 8% to 76% applied directly to your monthly electric bill. Renters, subsidized renters, and homeowners who receive an electric bill can apply for EAP.
The FAP and EAP application is available online by visiting www.snhs.org. Applications may be printed off the website and dropped off or mailed in. Clients are welcome to call 603-668-8010 to make an appointment to complete an application.
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP): The weatherization assistance program installs energy-efficient improvements to a home at no cost to the homeowner. Neighbor Helping Neighbor (NHN): the NHN program provides financial assistance to electric and natural gas customers who suffer financial hardships, but who are not eligible for traditional energy assistance programs.
