Some of my fondest memories growing up in New Hampshire are of exploring in the northern part of the state, specifically the White Mountains. I feel blessed to enjoy that nostalgia, back to the times when I went on many hiking trips there with my family and friends. The beauty, grandeur and call of the White Mountains! I fell under their spell many a summer and fall day. The Four Thousand Footers and the mountains of the Presidential Range were the lure for me there at that time.
I remember one special time when I was climbing up Mt. Lafayette with my brother, Alberton. The fog closed in suddenly and we made our way up to the Greenleaf High Hut to take shelter. When we arrived we were greeted kindly and we were able to find rest and wonderful bowls of hot, steamy homemade stew and fresh warm bread to go with it. It was heaven! After our rest and lunch we were fortified and ascended to the summit amidst brisk winds and spectacular views. If you should ever get the opportunity to, do try that hike. You’ll love it!
New Hampshire’s natural beauty has always attracted not just nature lovers like myself, but also the imagination and attention of artists for many generations. Currently, we are showcasing a small sampling of landscape paintings from various art books that we have in the Art Room on the second floor of the library. These showcased works featured in the Art Room display case are but a small sampling of the amazing works of landscape art paying homage to the beauty and majesty of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. I encourage you to visit the display and perhaps take home a book or two for your enjoyment. Be sure to visit the White Mountains this fall.
See you in the Art Room!
