Did you know that today is national cookie day? Baking cookies is one of my favorite activities, not just this time of the year, but throughout the year. The top ten cookies in America are as follows chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar, gingerbread, oatmeal, snickerdoodle, shortbread, peanut butter blossom, snowball, and thumbprint. What is your favorite, did your favorite make the top ten? According to legend, “English women used to eat gingerbread ‘husbands’ to improve their chances of finding a real mate.” In 2018, after receiving backlash from PETA, Nabisco redesigned their Animal Crackers box, to “uncage” the animals. Do you think animal crackers are cookies? Some of our staff said yes, that they are cookies, while others said they are a hybrid, not really a cookie but not a cracker either. Ask your family and friends what they think. Do you put graham crackers in the same category as cookies? Celebrate this important holiday (my opinion) with us. Grab a book from the display, learn how to bake a new kind of cookie or read a cookie inspired book. Happy baking.
