Challenge your mind this November by playing games! People have been playing games for thousands of years. Did you know that chess was invented in 6th century A.D.? Some of the original pieces included elephants and chariots! The crossword puzzle turns 110 this December. The New York Times, which has featured a daily crossword since 1942, once described them in a critical editorial from 1924 as “a sinful waste…[Solvers] get nothing out of it except a primitive sort of mental exercise.” Wordle, a web-based game in which players have six chances to guess a five-letter word, took off in December of 2021. Many have borrowed on Wordle’s success, creating spinoffs, such as Quordle, Blossom, Waffle, Squardle, Globle, Worldle, and many more. Stop by the library this month, and check out the games display by the elevator on the first floor. Pick up some fun game trivia, or books on improving your strategy and technique. Also, stop by the Reading Room and grab a copy of the New York Times crossword puzzle (answers are provided) throughout the week.
