There are many different celebrations in December. These celebrations include Advent (Dec 3-Dec 24), Hanukkah (Dec 7- Dec 15), Christmas (Dec 25) and Kwanzaa (Dec 26- Jan 1). Each of these celebrations have many traditions, and similarities too. Advent, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa share similar traditions in lighting of candles. Hanukkah and Kwanzaa: in both celebrations, one candle is lit each day, at the end of the celebration all the candles are lit. During Advent, a candle is lit each Sunday. For four consecutive Sundays an additional candle is lit, with all being lit on Christmas Eve. Christmas is unique within families, each incorporating their own traditions. According to Google Trends, the most popular Christmas tradition in New Hampshire is personalizing stockings. While the most searched Christmas tradition in New Hampshire is Christmas music. The library has many different materials for the variety of celebrations in December that you can use at home. We have a wide range of materials tailored to each holiday from cooking different foods, to the meaning behind each holiday, music, and how to decorate your home for the holidays. Have a wonderful celebration and create some new traditions this season.
