July 8th, 2024 · No Comments · Book Recommendations, Books, City Library, Main Branch, West Branch

Did you know that the first Olympic Games took place in 776 BC? The first Olympics began in Ancient Greece and included games like chariot racing, boxing, wrestling, and the long jump. The Ancient Olympic games ended in 393 AD and didn’t begin again until 1896!

The Olympic and Paralympic medals this summer are made with scraps of iron which came from the original construction of the Eiffel Tower. The medals will also feature the image of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. Visit Olympics.com to learn more fun facts about the 2024 Paris games.

Come check out our Summer Olympics display at the Manchester City Library. Find out more on the history of the Olympic games and Olympic athletes in preparation for the Paris games. You can also view the books on display in our catalog.
