November 29th, 2024 · No Comments · Books, City Library, Main Branch, Manchester West Branch Library, News

It’s been a great year for book lovers; so many incredible books have come out that it can be hard to choose just one. That’s why BookPage compiled a list of 89 of the best books of 2024, and there is truly something for everyone. Highlights from their top ten list are James, the “standout” retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the “mature, compelling, and relatable romance” of Yulin Kuang’s How to End a Love Story, and Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by the “master narrator of disasters” Adam Higginbotham.

Their full list includes The Unclaimed: Abandonment and Hope in the City of Angels, a “gripping, groundbreaking, and well-researched book,” popular mysteries such as Richard Osman’s We Solve Murders, and T. Kingfisher’s “Regency fantasy-horror hybrid” A Sorceress Comes to Call. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter there is always the “superb rom-com” Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez or The Age of Magical Overthinking: Notes on Modern Irrationality, a “funny, compassionate take on social science.”

Pick up the latest copy of BookPage at the Manchester City Library and the West Branch to view the full list of their best books of 2024 and a holiday gift guide.
