Why wait to the last minute to begin thinking of Holiday gifts for your family? Instead of the ordinary, give your family something personal and unique. Give them copies of their family history. Great for grandparents and siblings, the information is the same until the current generation. You can include as little or as much as you like. Family photographs, recipes, favorite sayings and artwork can make your history interesting and come alive. Where do you find this information? Begin by writing your own history and then write about the family members you know. Try asking older family members for information. Now that you have a place to begin, come to the library to look at city directories, Catholic Church records, U. S. census records, obituaries from the local newspaper, town histories, and online databases. If you have scrapbooking skills you can make your history as elaborate as you like. The library has books on scrapbooking, calligraphy, and lots of other hobbies. Make your favorite family recipes for a gift or a family gathering. If you don’t have the recipes but know the types of food they enjoyed, the library also has a large cookbook collection. You may find the same or similar recipe, or one from our collection of ethnic cookbooks. So why wait? Right now is the time to begin your search, get started on a new project, and test recipes. By the time the holidays are here you’ll be ready to enjoy yourself!
