While it may sound trite, great musicians don’t just give us lyrics and melodies. They invite us into their souls. They entertain us with something unique to themselves, yet to which we can relate.
Of course, these stories have to come from somewhere, and genius comes at a price. Very often, the lives that distill so nicely into song are in reality troubled and tortured. Some artists live to conquer their demons. Many die trying. Either way, their stories fascinate us. We want to know what sets them apart from us? What makes them similar? Would we want to live their lives so that we could possess their talents?
